If you were to design a trout stream you could use the West Boulder as a model. Classic riffles, pools and runs are framed by the north end of the Absaroka mountains. Many of our clients say the West Boulder reminds them of New Zealand because of the gin clear water and the necessity of trying to spot the big browns lurking in the tailouts of pools.  We fish this river from public access usually in combination with the main Boulder River depending on the time of year and river levels.

This fishery is used later in the year as a terrific terrestrial stream and holds mostly browns with a few rainbows and the occasional cutthroat. The scenery on the 40 minute drive makes the whole day worthwhile.
